You can’t turn on a TV or look at your smartphone without seeing the word coronavirus or COVID-19. As grim and annoying as it may seem, it is serious and something to be handled with caution. As self-isolation begins and with most public places shutting down, it’s difficult to find entertainment. Sure, there are thousands of shows and movies to stream, but that can only go so far, and watching TV all day just rots your brain, or at least that’s what we were told as kids.
Luckily, we have Google. Well, what does that mean? We’ve had Google for the past 15 years. Well, according to Fast Company magazine, as part of Google’s 15th birthday, a few new features were added to Google Maps. One feature is a more in-depth Google Street View that allows users to go on virtual tours of unique places, including over 2,500 museums around the world!
Just because we are practicing self-isolation, doesn’t mean we can’t also experience some art and culture, right? Here are a few museums you can check out:
Musée d’Orsay
One of the most popular art museums in the world, you can take a virtual stroll through Monets, Cezzans, and maybe even a few Van Goghs!
Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam
Speaking of Van Gogh, you can do a full virtual tour of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Van Gogh is arguably one of the most popular artists in the world. With this walkthrough you can experience his notable collection of paintings, along with some of his drawings!
National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
This famous gallery is offering two online exhibits. Take in some great artwork and learn a little history while you’re at it. Google Arts & Culture go in depth on some of the fashion worn during the American Revolution as well as the history behind the notable works of Johannes Vermeer.
While we are working through this difficult time, there are still ways in which we can experience art and culture. Art is important to experience, it shows us where we have been and gives us hope for a better future. For more virtual tour options click here.
