We’ve told you the Internet is a great tool for artists. Artwork Archive is one example of a fantastic resource. The resource we want to highlight this week is a site called Daisie. Daisie was launched in 2017 by Dom Santry and Maisie Williams… you know, the fiery actress from Game of Thrones? Together, these two have built an online collaborative art community for creative people across the globe.
The site is broken down into 11 different categories:
- Film
- Music
- Photography
- Art
- Writing
- Fashion
- Design
- Makeup
- Digital
- Gaming
- Animation
On Daisie, you can start your own project and seek collaborators. Or you can find existing projects to work on.
Before you dive into projects, make sure to set up your Daisie profile. Your profile allows you to talk a little bit about who you are, list your location for in-person collaboration, and add your skills along with your portfolio. Think of it as a LinkedIn page for your art.
Other features the site offers are a discussion board where artists can ask questions and connect with industry professionals. Need a little inspiration? Daisie also offers a prompt board where you create projects based on a certain topic or idea. Sounds pretty neat, hey?
So why was Daisie founded to begin with? It’s no secret that the creative industry is a difficult one to stay afloat in… if you break into it at all. Knowing this, Wiliams set to work to make it easier for creatives to be discovered.
“I want Daisie to give other creatives the opportunities that I was lucky enough to receive at the beginning of my career,” Williams said in a press release. “Daisie will break down the archaic gap between youth and creative jobs; offering new opportunities for individuals to collaborate, learn & create — establishing a new way for talented individuals to be discovered and employed.”
Recently, Daisie helped two young artists connect from two different countries. Olivia O’Hara, a director from New York City, was looking for a project where she could shoot an interpretive dance video. Emma Bradley, a London native was looking for someone to direct the music video for her debut single, HER. O’Hara reached out through Daisie, and from there the two built a project board and brought on other collaborators. Their video for HER, won Daisie’s Wonder Woman competition in 2019. You can read all about the duo’s experience using Daisie here.
